Barb and Doug Mutolo have been working for the past six years on a very difficult project--creating a place for artists to sell their work and making this place into a warm and friendly cultural center where people can go and meet one another, have a cup of coffee and take part in the many programs that they have been able to sponsor. What they have been able to do so far is just short of a miracle. As you well know, what makes this project something close to mission impossible is that they are doing it in the little village of Greensboro. To do something like this is hard enough in wealthy more populated areas, but to do it in a little hamlet like Greensboro is difficult to imagine. There is nothing like it in Caroline County and you'd be hard pressed to find anything like it in any other rural area on the shore and probably few others like it in the state. We are extremely lucky to have a place like the Greensborough Trading Company in Caroline County.
The art and crafts area on the first floor has grown over the years and is packed with local art right now. The second floor is the place where classes, music, poetry readings and other activities take place and is a work in progress. Barb & Doug have a great vision for the second floor and they've made real progress with very few resources. The problem, as you can well imagine, is that the store doesn't generate enough money to keep the store going and also make progress with what needs to be done on the second floor-it is happening but at a snail's pace. With a bit of help we can make a huge difference in that progress and we'll be the ones to benefit by being able to enjoy cultural activities in an attractive surrounding. We know this is not a here-today-gone-tomorrow outfit. They have made a huge commitment and have worked very hard trying to make it a success. We hope that you will join us in helping to ensure this local cultural treasure is able to continue and more quickly become what Doug and Barb envisioned when they started the GTC. We will be the ones to benefit when it is finally finished.
